Accessibility

Statement updated on 7 October 2026.

CINECLUB should work for everyone in a club, including people who use a screen reader, people who use a keyboard instead of a touch screen or a mouse, and people who need larger text. This page says how far it does that today, and what I still need to do.

Accessibility standard

I aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. CINECLUB does not fully meet that standard yet. Testing is not finished, and known problems are listed below.

Completed checks

• Automated checks on the release checklist. These use axe-core with the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, and measure text contrast separately where axe-core cannot. The scan covers the start screen, every tab of the app, the main popups, the star rating and every page of this website, in all three themes, in light and dark mode, at phone width.
• Keyboard only, on a computer. The tabs, the menu, the sections that open and close, the film popups and the star rating all work with the Tab, Enter and Escape keys, and show a clear outline around whatever has focus. A popup keeps the keyboard inside it until you close it, then returns you to where you were. "Skip to content" is the first stop on the app's page.
• Larger text and narrow screens. The app's tabs and film popups fit a screen 320 pixels wide, and a desktop browser at 200% zoom, without scrolling sideways.

Known problems

• I have not yet tested CINECLUB with a screen reader on a phone (VoiceOver on iPhone or TalkBack on Android).
• Trailers play in YouTube's own player, and film details and posters come from TMDB. I cannot change how the YouTube player works, but please tell me if it prevents you using a feature so I can consider an accessible alternative.
